Does your cycling app offer more than statistics ?

There is a huge choice of apps to navigate and record your rides, which then bombard you with statistics.

For me I am not interested in the stats, my main use is to record and plan my adventures, to be able to remind me where I have explored and to share with family and others who may want to explore the same areas.

With the market competition increasing the makers of these apps are looking at other ways to lure in customers. One of these new benefits being offered is insurance.

Of the three apps I use cycle.travel, Strava and Komoot, the last 2 now offer insurance depending on where you live. Both are free if you sign up to their premium packages, but you must subscribe to the insurance as it not activated automatically.

To help you do this I will explain each sign up below starting with Strava.

Strava offers insurance to members on the premium package costing 7.99 euro a month in the USA (not all states), UK and Australia. To subscribe, sign into Strava click on the explore button then subscribe perks. Find the option Sunday Insurance. Click the button to activate then follow the instructions.

The insurance cover is limited and includes the following;

  1. 30 GBP reimbursement for travel as the result of an accident or mechanical breakdown.
  2. Free race-entry reimbursement for runners.
  3. Device coverage and discounts on bike, travel, life, and health insurance

 Here are the term for residents in the UK please check for your state or country.

Next Komoot which offers a much more comprehensive policy when you subscribe to their premium package for 59 Euro a year. The insurance is offered to members who live in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium or the Netherlands with coverage in Europe, the US and Canada.

The insurance cover includes the following;

  1. Road-side bike and e-bike repairs
  2. Overnight accommodation
  3. Road-side pick-up service
  4. Damage and theft protection
  5. Global search and rescue cover
  6. Transport to get you home
Once you have subscribed, on your Premium Page you will have access to your contract number and AXA 24/7 helpline via the link Premium Protection.

Nothing is for free but both these benefits are useful and can be used with a few clicks of a button. I hope you have found this page useful?
