Tour 24 Day 1 Somerton to Poole.

Day 1 Somerton to Poole

Easy day on the bike 20km on the Somerset Country lanes, started at 8.30 because we wanted to beat the rain to Castle Cary station. Met a helpful jolly railway man who escorted us across the tracks before the next non stop speedy train flew through.

Mission accomplished, we then hoped on a train to Weymouth quick cappuccino using our jetboil and eating some yummy homemade flapjack before getting another train to Poole.

Enjoyed chatting to a Belgium bike packer who was heading to the IOW. He was not looking forward to a soggy night in his tent.

Another group were on the Poole train heading to London after a weekend exploring Dorset. Our combined bikes filled the bike space to bursting and it was quite a chaotic maneuver to get our bikes out but many hands helped.

Love the cycling community and how friendly it is.

Found a hotel next to the station hopefully a good night's sleep before we sail to Cherbourg in the morning.

Not the most exciting of cycling days, more about getting to the destination and avoiding the rain.

Look out for Jenni Clarke's sketch of the day.

See you tomorrow in France 🇫🇷
